Digital video is everywhere. Thanks to the miracle of data compression it can be streamed to our screens in an instant (give or take a bit of buffering). But, in digital form, film has acquired a new fragility. Though considered a solid and timely transmitter of truth, its coding offers fresh potential for distortion, fragmentation and manipulation. The visual possibilities can be striking, but so too can the ideological. My paintings attempt to bring these possibilities together and explore, using fragmented film footage and online video news, the shape-shifting qualities of the digital world and its influence on our self-image and ideas about past and present.
